On Wednesday the 1st of March, Year 13 English Literature attended a series of lectures at the Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle provided by a company called Sovereign Education discussing different themes surrounding the play ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’, which we are studying. Each lecture was delivered by lecturers from different universities around the country and centred around different aspects of the play, for example the play in the context of its time and how the structure of the play is used. We found this day useful in terms of broadening our knowledge of the play and because it provided us with a number of viewpoints on the play to consider. We also felt the day was useful for helping us to prepare for University, as the lectures were delivered as they would be in a university. Thanks to the English department for subsidising our tickets.
