Durham County Schools Futsal Finals 2019

On Wednesday 27th February 2019 the Durham County Schools FA Futsal Finals were staged at the Beacon of Light in Sunderland.

Our U13 (Year 8) and U16 (Year 11) teams secured qualification for the County Finals day after successfully winning their respective Gateshead Schools Football Association competitions in January 2019.

The U13 team were competitive in all of their fixtures as they challenged Easington, Monkwearmouth, Durham Johnston and eventual winners Tanfield. The group who have been training every Tuesday after school for the majority of the school year played with a lot of enthusiasm, commitment and can be very proud of their achievements this season.

The U16 side were dominant in all of their fixtures as they faced Easington, Durham Johnston and eventual winners North Durham Academy. The Year 11’s controlled the majority of the opening two fixtures but still lost both games by the odd goal. The final group game was a 3-1 victory against North Durham Academy who went on to win the competition. The U16’s have been training every Wednesday afternoon since September and have made a huge amount of progress as a group both on and off the court.

We are striving to provide a positive futsal programme for all of our students at Heworht Grange School, and it is also worth noting that Josh Convery (Year 10), Connor Exley, Cameron Houghton and Liam Butler (Year 11) did an outstanding job at officiating on finals day.

The following futsal activities are currently available to our students free of charge:

Tuesday, 15:15-16:15pm, Year 7/8 Futsal Club

Tuesday, 17:00-18:30pm, Year 10/11, Newcastle United Foundation Development Centre
