It is the policy of the English department to guide the choice of reading materials for our pupils. This is to make sure the reading material is not only interesting, but that it offers age appropriate stretch and challenge. We place a high value on encouraging reading; all Key Stage 3 English lessons begin with at least 15 minutes of sustained silent reading. The Head of English Ms Parnell personally decides which class readers are dedicated to which class. If a pupil is a particularly advanced reader she will offer her advice as to which book the pupils should move on to. The current crop of  novels are:
