Weekly News 24/11/2022
It has been another busy day for Team HG and as always thank you for your support for our young people.
Inset Day
Please be aware that there will be an Inset Day on Friday 23rd December and school will not be open for students on that day.
Attendance and The World Cup
Thank you again for your continued support with attendance. On Monday we had one of the highest attendance figures in the Trust, and we continue to make progress and improve. It was fantastic to hear all the cheers and shouts as England scored goals on Monday afternoon coming from every corner of the school and the students were great supporters. In the morning they discussed the importance of the world cup but also some big questions around the World Cup being held in Qatar this year. We heard some very interesting debates on Monday morning.
Children In Need
Thank you to everyone who donated cakes, biscuits, sweets or chocolate or provided pocket money for the Tuck Shop on Friday. The event was a phenomenal success, the queue at break time was huge, so much so that we had to put the sale on at lunchtime as well. We raised £360.00 from the ‘Tuck Shop’ sale for Children In Need.
Fashion Institute Careers Event
On Tuesday the Year 10 and 11 students interested in careers in fashion were invited to hear from one of the lecturers at Sunderland University to find out about careers and degrees in this sector. The students were an absolute credit to the school and were engaged throughout the session.
Faraday Challenge
On Wednesday we welcomed teams from Washington and Thornhill for the Faraday Challenge. This is an annual science competition where Year 8 students worked in teams to solve science problems, using Faraday currency to buy equipment from their Faraday budget. Well done to all the students involved!
Consilium SEND Conference
On Friday we are hosting the Consilium SEND conference for SENDCos across the Trust. We are looking forward to showing Trust colleagues around the Innovation Centre and Pitstop as well as having some focused conversations about how we can continue to improve our provision for our SEND students.
