Hopefully by now parents will have received a copy of our latest Ofsted report.

The school was inspected on 3 and 4 October 2012, less than two years since our previous inspection. You will probably know from the press that a new inspection framework was launched in September 2012 which is deliberately more challenging and has raised the bar in terms of what is expected of schools. We were inspected less than five weeks into this new framework. Despite this and despite the fact that the school had two previous judgements of ‘satisfactory, Ofsted recognised all of the improvements that have taken place in recent years and the school was graded ‘Good’ in all areas of its work. Aspects that were judged ‘Good’ included Achievement, Teaching, Behaviour and Safety and Leadership and Management, all of which resulted in a judgement of ‘Good’ for Overall Effectiveness. A copy of the report is available by clicking here or via the Ofsted web site.

We are delighted by this judgement and see it as a fitting reward for all of the hard work and perseverance of the last two years. The staff and students of the school have worked in a building site for the last three years and yet have worked together to achieve record exam results and an improved Ofsted grading. It is a testimony to their professionalism and dedication. The young people too should be proud of what they achieved and it is clear from the report how proud they are of their school, their families and their community.
Of course a school’s work is never done as successive generations of young people come through our doors and we will continue to work as hard as ever to make sure that the quality of education they receive at Heworth Grange matches the best they could receive anywhere.

Thank you for your continued support.
