In 2014 the English, Art and DT departments created templates and decorated ‘Peace Babies’ to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. On Friday 9th November 2018, we put the Peace Babies officially on display, to mark the of the end of the First World War 100 years’ ago. We conducted a small ceremony where Mrs Codling, Chair of Governors, thanked staff and pupils for their work saying: “It is important pupils today are told about brave souls like David Harkness Blakey who gave their life for us.” He was a local soldier who died at The Somme; Heworth Grange has renamed a block in his honour.
