In the individual events a number of Heworth rowers finished just outside the medals in 4th but there was bronze for Mark Williams and silver for Liam Edwards, see the tables below to view full results and details.

The top four rowers in individual challenges in each age group were then selected to represent Gateshead at the Tyne and Wear Championships, being held at Newcastle University on 10th February. Mark Williams, Liam Edwards, Toni Bell, Georgia Brown and Anthony Hardingham are all in the team and will do the school proud.

All students at Heworth are given the opportunity to row, either as part of PE lessons, at a lunchtime club, or in inter-form competitions and those that find they have a talent may be invited to try rowing on the river near Newburn at the Tyne United Rowing Club. They host family days and taster sessions that Heworth pupils have accessed and the dedicated few end up training and competing regularly on the water.

The School Sport Partnership has created these opportunities, providing equipment, sharing coaching expertise, delivering staff training and organising competitions. If you are a Heworth pupil and interested in being involved in the next competition the PE department will help you to ‘get going and get rowing!’[nggallery id=11] [divider]
