Tennis Season grips Heworth

As Wimbledon and tennis fever grips the nation so our Heworth tennis season gets into full swing.

Most pupils have been taught a unit of tennis in PE and the keen players are extending themselves at lunchtime or after school practices.

There are knockout competitions in several year groups reaching their final stages now and the top performers can compete for the school teams in the local round of the Aegon National Schools Tennis Cup. Matches consist of six singles sets and 2 doubles, but as you can see by our results this year we have come up against some very strong teams.

U15s
v. Dame Allens 1-5
v. Ryton 4-2
v. Whitley Bay 1-5
v. RGS 1-5
v. Whickham 0-6
v. Hookergate 2-4

U13s
v. Ryton 1-5
v. Whickham 0-6

Both teams still have to play Emmanuel, Lord Lawson and St. Thomas More, so we are hoping for more winning sets in these remaining games.

The school courts are going to be inaccessible during the holidays, but the tennis can continue – the area has two excellent tennis clubs that will be running junior coaching sessions throughout the summer. Playing regularly and receiving coaching at Blaydon Tennis Club or Boldon Lawn Tennis Club will rapidly improve playing levels so check out the details on their websites and get hitting!
